Sensing Interdepence
A monographic exhibition of A4C-Artsforthecommons’ artworks and cultural production that revisits the historic collaboration between Ecuadorian artist Rosa Jijon and Italian activist and artistic researcher Francesco Martone will be held in Amsterdam within the new spaces of De Appel 2025.
A4C areas of interest and research range from migration and decolonial critique to rights of nature, from community-based actions to resistance to extractivism. Their body of work and “conversation” platforms aim to explore the connections and synergies between arts and activism. Their last decade of activities will be displayed in an ambitious exhibition project. In contrast, the physical space of the exhibition venue will be divided into “islands” showcasing A4C various working themes and methodologies.
The Elements
A4C artwork and “conversation” platforms aim to explore the connections and synergies between socially and politically engaged arts, visual arts, cultural critique, and activism.
The body of work of the last decade of activities will be displayed in an ambitious exhibition project, whereas the physical space of the exhibition venue will be divided into “islands” showcasing A4C various working themes and methodologies
The islands follow a conceptual layout that addresses the expressive trajectory of A4C, from migration and decolonial critique to rights of nature, community-based actions and resistance to extractivism.

The work of A4C embraces issues related to resistance to extractivism, critique of the Anthropocene, human mobility, and climate justice.

A4C collaborates with and supports movements and organizations that promote the rights of nature, indigenous peoples’ rights, and social and ecological justice.

It aims to offer spaces and opportunities for mutual exchange and dialogue among actors and practitioners in activism, the arts, curatorial research, academia, and science.

Sensing Interdependence is supported by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture under the Italian Council program (13thedition, 2024), which aims to promote Italian contemporary art worldwide.
The exhibition is co-curated by Aria Spinelli and Angelo Castucci. The design is by Victor Vega.
De Appel Center For Contemporary Art, Amsterdam
De Appel is a daring institution founded in 1975. It soon became internationally known as an alternative institutional model, born out of artists' need to present performance and video art. Today, de Appel continues to act as a host for artistic and curatorial experimentation.
